Since 2003, California Pacific Medical Center has played an active role in a citywide effort by all San Francisco hospitals
to improve the health of African Americans in the city. The African American Health Disparity Project (AAHDP) was created
in response to a community needs assessment that showed African Americans are less likely than other groups to have access to health care. As a result, their death rates from health problems such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and various forms of cancer are significantly worse than other groups. To help turn the tide, California Pacific Medical Center has launched a variety of programs that expand access to health care for African Americans, including many who live in the St. Luke’s Campus service area.
